The Months have Ends

The Months have ends (2014) for soprano and orchestra is based on five poems by Emily Dickinson.

This work traces a journey on the caducity of the human experience.

From the idealized passion (Wild night!), we enter into the sad mechanicity that follows a painful event (After great pain).

The bird’s chant to give farewell to men (A train), is followed by the human desire to celebrate life through singing (I shall keep singing).

The end (The Months have ends) is seen as a sweet rest from pain; men, like children, don’t want to leave their noisy games of life.
